Dickinson has been able to catch the beauty and the complexity of nature using
a powerful and an inner poetic language tool. The natural setting is not only a
stage scenery for her, but a mirror where to reflect all her emotions, and also a discussion and discovery
place. Trees,
flowers, birds become universal signs of life, deatn and loneliness. In
her lyrics, nature is often animated and personified, assuming almost a
dialogic role with the poet. A withered
flower becomes the symbol of the life caducity, while a flying bird represents
the longing towards the unknown. Emily Dickinson doesn't only describe nature,
but she understans it, she interiorizes it and at the same time she makes her

tiny, huge things and great intuitions. I wanted to highlight through her lyrics what it isn't revealed or hidden inside them
and also to go deeper into her life to
understand how the important events of her life influenced her behaviour. In her
personality we can find all
the fragilities of her
poetic genius together with the spiritual troubles
gripping a new born modern
society too. Emily's life is like a
tenacious carp that swims backwards
among the flows of a full raging river, searching a safe cave to lay down its white eggs, or wandering
in her white dress , feeding
herself with frugal bite s
